Kirk is a distinguished leader in architectural design and an instrumental force in the sustainable design movement. He was a co-founding member of the National AIA Committee On The Environment, and was named an AIA Fellow in 1993. Gastinger has served at all levels of leadership in the AIAKC Chapter as well as Board Chair at Horizon Academy, Charlotte Street Foundation and 2020 Leadership. He is on the Facilities Committee of Starlight Theatre Association and the Advocacy Committee of the American Institute of Architects. Kirk is the Executive Director of Cube, the Center for Understanding the Built Environment.

on a personal note....

Kirk is an avid cyclist and loves to travel – his favorite destination city is Lake Iseo, Italy. His inspiration for being a designer came from Amos Chang, a well-known architecture professor at Kansas State University, where Kirk attended. A little known tidbit about Kirk is that he raced in the Soap Box Derby.
