Work

Virgin Mobile

Working on this project, Virgin Mobile outlined the attributes of their company culture that they wanted reflected in the office design. They were seeking an office space where their people were easy to access, collaborate, encourage entrepreneurial thinking, and have fun.  All workspaces access windows for both daylight and sweeping views of downtown from the 24th floor. The collaboration stations were outfitted with cutting-edge technology and glass-marker boards to easily share and express ideas. The open floorplan and workspaces, including the meeting rooms and collaboration stations allows for everyone to be seen and heard. The conference rooms have glass walls and doors to observe each other working, creating and pitching new ideas. The kitchen area doubles as a place for the staff to both eat and unwind with panoramic views and a layout that accommodates large gathering.

Great Range Capital

GastingerWalker& was hired to be the tenant representative on a turn-key lease project to review the work and options provided by the building architect and ensure the scope of work was in line with the agreement of a “Class A” build-out.

The team coordinated with the building architect, Piper-Wind Architects. Design development drawings and construction documents were reviewed and given comments for the suite interior. Options for creative design elements were provided and implemented. Ceiling designs were refined, including final locations of ceiling clouds and the structure was exposed. A wood plank element was added in the reception area and conference room.

In addition, furniture package was provided for the entire suite, including a custom-made conference table, custom desks, and credenzas.  We aided in the coordination of photography, art and framing for the entire suite.

Sprint

The Sprint Living Lab at the Overland Park Campus was recently completed.

The goals were to achieve densification in the workspace, take down barriers, foster collaboration, provide a more modern design aesthetic and add a strong focus on integration of collaborative technologies, while retaining the existing walls, doors, ceilings, and lighting, with very minimal modification. The firm was also directed to look at a broad range of furniture solutions for workspaces, collaborative and ancillary areas. As a result, the firm incorporated 9 different types of individual workstations and a large variety of enclosed open office meeting and collaborative furniture solutions. The firm approached the project as a “showroom” environment, showcasing a variety of manufacturers’ products and solutions, with each of the 4 unique spaces flowing into each other in a coordinated way. The color palette is scattered throughout the spaces, with each area having one or two prime colors.

Virgin Mobile Project In the News

Virgin Mobile USA’s new Downtown Kansas City headquarters is taking shape, with 42 employees hired and the buildout of its 11,000-square-foot office at One Kansas City Place fast-tracked for completion by this summer.

The British, no-contract mobile provider was purchased by Sprint in 2009 for almost $500 million and is in the process of consolidating its coastal offices into a US headquarters closer to its parent company. But Virgin Mobile is taking pains to ensure it keeps a separate brand and identity...read more

Docs Who Care

Docs Who Care wanted to give their employees a professional, but fun and energetic place to work, as they are all long-time employees and treated like family.  To answer this, we had fun with creating angled office walls and open ceiling features, as well as a lot of glass-fronts to be able to see daylight from one side of their office building to the other.  The rich woods and brick features dress up the space and add texture and contrast throughout.

Edison Spaces

Thomas Edison was the inspiration for the design and industrial lab environment materials such as concrete floors, ceilings that are open to deck, brick and wood wall features, and Edison style lightbulbs are used throughout

The concept behind Edison Spaces is an office that leases small interior suites to startup companies on a monthly basis. The structural deck and exposed metal columns were painted black for a vintage industrial accent trim.

Open areas are communal spaces for sub-tenants to share, including conferencing rooms, open collaboration spaces, printing room and break room. Space and design challenges included creating a welcoming entry and impressive common areas that would be inviting to both existing and potential sub-tenants to lease.

UMB Completes Relocation of Fund Services Division

In our design, the timeless form of the historic arch finds a home in a revitalized and contemporary setting.
— Lisa Kincaid

We are pleased to announce the completion of relocating UMB Fund Services in Milwaukee to historic Schlitz Park. UMB Fund Services is a subsidiary of UMB Financial Corporation, a Kansas City-based financial services holding company. UMB Fund Services provides a complete line of products and services to the mutual fund and alternative investment industry.

Having outgrown its former building on the west side of Milwaukee’s downtown, the new location provides ample space for current employees and will allow for eventual expansion. UMB signed a 10-year lease for 89,000 RSF of new office space at the business park's Executive Building, 235 W. Galena St. The project scope covers three and half floors of mostly office space, but also includes reception, meeting and break rooms, and a filing/storage area in the lower level all based on a “curved” theme.

“In expressing the spirit of UMB Fund Services, our design team was inspired by the many arches present at the existing Stockhouse-Executive Building and throughout the historic Schlitz Park campus in Milwaukee. From the front entrance of the building to the curving vaults of the brick and wood structural ceilings within, the elegance of the arch is found throughout. We believe it is appropriate to honor the best built traditions of our past. We also believe that the arch can serve as one representation of the integrity of UMB Fund Services: as a trusted client resource and as the kind of responsive employer that makes UMB Fund Services a “Milwaukee Best Place to Work” for the last five years. In our design, the timeless form of the historic arch finds a home in a revitalized and contemporary setting. From our inspirational photographs to our artistic renderings to the completed project, you will see a respectful nod to the historic past with a keen eye looking toward the future in our design.” said Lisa Kincaid, principal at GastingerWalker&.

In addition to the new facility, Schlitz Park provides UMB’s employees with several advantages, including a fitness center, free parking, improved access to public transportation, and proximity to local highways. The location is also close to the Milwaukee River and the heart of downtown.

The Schlitz Park space had been empty since the Milwaukee County Department of Human Services moved out in 2005. The extensive renovation included the Executive Building and adjacent Stockhouse. The former Brewhouse, just south of the Executive Building was also demolished to make room for the renovation and the Brewhouse Square was created.

“We are very proud to be working with UMB on another project,” Kevin Harden, principal at GastingerWalker& said. “It is a testament to our relationship that we are able to work so closely and frequently with such a great client, especially on such a significant building that is embedded in the history of Milwaukee.”
